Current Projects

This year we are initiating a three-pronged approach to ensure that our projects meet the direct needs of the communities that we work with. Students will develop meaningful relationships within a community and work to improve their livelihood. This will also provide new and different opportunities for students to get involved with development. These opportunities will include Internships and Researchers as well as small scale projects that students will develop from a participatory approach method and working directly with organizations in a community.

- Internships: GPE locates internships at already established non-governmental organizations and ministries in the areas we work. Internships will serve to build a relationship between GPE and the community and allow us to gain an understanding of the area. Before departing, students will spend a semester acquiring skills to prepare them for their specific internship.

-Researchers: GPE will send research teams to countries we work in to carry out a community-based research projects. Students will be trained in research project design and carry out their research during the summer with a community-based organization. Research is critical in assessing the needs of the community that we hope to carry out projects with in the future. Researchers will work directly with the community to assess their needs with the intent to build a project for future GPE volunteers to be apart of.

-Projects: Researcher and interns will work together to disperse a budget to help mitigate some of the immediate needs of the communities we are working with.
